Why visit Cangshan Mountains?
Cangshan is the other half of Dali's defining geography alongside Erhai Lake, and the cable car up to the ridge gives a clear view of both the lake and the old town laid out below.
How to experience it
Take the cable car up and hike a section of the ridge trail rather than attempting a full peak ascent, unless you're prepared for a serious high-altitude trek.
Tip
Weather changes fast at altitude — bring a layer even on a warm day in the old town below.
