Qing Dao/Hidden Gems

Badaguan

Qing Dao, Shandong

A quiet residential district of colonial-era mansions along Qingdao's southern coast, named for eight historic sections of the Great Wall.

Why visit Badaguan?

Unlike the more commercial German quarter near the cathedral, Badaguan was built as elite residential villas and stays largely low-key today — a slower, greener counterpoint to the rest of the old town.

How to experience it

Best explored on foot or by bike along the tree-lined streets rather than as a single fixed attraction.

Tip

Different streets bloom with different flowers depending on the season — spring for cherry blossoms, autumn for crimson maples.
