Ciqikou Ancient Town

Chong Qing, Chongqing Municipality

A well-preserved riverside old town of Ming- and Qing-era stone streets, once a porcelain-trading port on the Jialing River, now lined with teahouses, snack vendors, and craft shops.

Pourquoi visiter Ciqikou Ancient Town ?

Ciqikou survived while most of old Chongqing was rebuilt, so it's one of the few places in the city where the narrow stone-paved streets and wooden shopfronts of pre-modern Chongqing are still intact. It's touristy, but it's also a genuine piece of the city's trading history rather than a reconstruction.

Comment en profiter

The main street gets crowded; the smaller side alleys running down toward the river are quieter and give a better sense of what the town actually looked like. Try local snacks like spicy rabbit skewers and sweet glutinous rice as you walk rather than sitting down for a full meal.

Astuce

Go early morning or on a weekday to avoid the heaviest tour-group crowds. It pairs well with a Jialing riverside walk afterward.
