Nine Dragon Screen

大同, 山西

A 45.5-metre glazed-tile screen wall built in 1392, the oldest and largest of its kind surviving in China.

为什么要去Nine Dragon Screen?

Built for a son of the Ming dynasty's first emperor, who reportedly wanted a grander screen than his brother's version in Beijing, it ended up three times the size of the more famous Nine Dragon Wall in Beijing's Beihai Park.

怎么体验

It's centrally located within the city, making it an easy add-on to a walk through Datong's old town rather than a separate trip.

小贴士

Best photographed in late afternoon light, when the glazed tiles catch the sun at an angle.
