Tengwang Pavilion

A riverside pavilion first built in 653 AD, rebuilt many times since (the current structure dates to 1989), famous as the subject of one of the most celebrated poems in classical Chinese literature.

In 675, the young poet Wang Bo composed 'Preface to the Pavilion of Prince Teng' at a banquet here — a work still studied in Chinese schools today, and the reason this pavilion, alongside Yueyang Tower and the Yellow Crane Tower, is counted among the 'Three Great Towers of Jiangnan.'

Go up to the top floor for the Gan River view the poem itself describes, then walk down through the exhibition floors covering the building's many reconstructions.
